ICANN’s recent vote to allow companies to create their own custom TLDs has brand managers, analysts, and lawyers concerned. Many fear the new system will just create confusion and chaos. While the application process is supposed to be rigorous and the cost significant, lawyers say that will not curb cybersquatters. The attraction for cybersquatters may not be in setting up their own custom TLD Registries, but instead in registering generic domains in the various extensions.
