Competition over who will manage the .org domain is heating up as it is moved away from VeriSign. ICANN and VeriSign reached a deal last year that allows VeriSign to keep control of the .com and .net addresses if they relinquish .org. Although the management of .org was supposed to go to a non-profit organization, applications have recently included for-profit companies as well.
