Hostway Corporation subsidiary RegistryPro announced the .pro TLD has grown five-fold over the last five months. The explosive growth is attributed partially to relaxed eligibility restrictions, which simplified the qualification process and opened registration to professionals around the world.
The .pro domain extension is designated exclusively for certified professionals and professional entities.
Previously, the TLD was limited to “accountants, engineers, lawyers and medical professionals, in just a few countries.” Registering a .pro domain was an in-depth process, requiring “a lengthy manual vetting of credentials, including the submission of written documentation of credentials.”
The new relaxed restrictions require the Registrant to simply fill out a domain registration form with their certification type, certification organization, and license number. It also opens the .pro TLD “to any professional or professional entity holding credentials from a certifying governmental authority anywhere in the world.”
