GoDaddy, founded in 1997 as Jomax Technologies, is the largest of all domain registrars by a landslide. By 2010, they had more than 32 million registrations under their management, an astounding 3 times more domains than their next closest competitor (Enom). In addition, Wild West Domains, GoDaddy’s reseller program, has more than 3 million registrations.
Although GoDaddy’s primary service is domain registrations, the company offers a wide variety of related services including domain appraisals, domain name backordering, domain name parking, domain name auctions, web hosting, email, SEO services, and more. Additionally, they offer 24-hour customer support via email and telephone.
GoDaddy has a reputation for their risqué ads in the Super Bowl. Because of this, GoDaddy’s CEO, Bob Parsons a vocal member of the domaining community, coined the phrase ‘GoDaddy-esque’ to mean edgy and fun.
GoDaddy is a giant in the domain registration sector, with no signs of giving up their pole position.
