Over the Christmas weekend, many Hotmail users would have been without service if not for Michael Chaney, who paid the registration renewal fee for passport.com, the main domain used by Hotmail to log in users. Chaney claimed that he had trouble getting his email and saw that passport.com had been placed on hold by Network Solutions. He paid the $35 renewal fee which restored the service.
