IETF Works Towards Internationalized Domain Names

July 11, 2001 in News

International Internet users want domain names in their native languages, but the lack of standards make widespread usage of these internationalized domain names (IDN’s) difficult. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is the group in charge of figuring out how internationalized domain names will work across the Internet’s current structure. The group is working on a plan to convert foreign language characters into U.S. ASCII characters in order to transmit over the Internet’s domain name system.
