NSI and Register.com Sued Over URL Patent

January 15, 2004 in News

Domain Registrars Network Solutions and Register.com are being sued by two Internet entrepreneurs for infringing on a URL patent. The suit alleges that the Registrars are infringing on a patent they received on December 30, 2003 by selling URL’s and email addresses. The patent refers to the method that a URL and email address is assigned to members of a group, such as the @ symbol within an email address and the . (dot) in the URL. For example, www.john.smith.com would have an email address of john@smith.com.
