Telnic Seeks to Offer .Tel IDNs

Telnic, the company behind the .tel TLD, seeks permission to offer .tel IDNs. IDNs, or internationalized domain names,

Telnic CEO Khashayar Mahdavi has requested authorization from ICANN, allowing them to release domain names from the pool of reserved names in their Registry Agreement. These names include domains that contain hyphens in the third and fourth positions. Releasing these domains would enable IDNs for the company.

Mahdavi adds that Telnic will follow all “guidelines for the implementation of the internationalized domain names” as published on ICANNs website.

.Mobi recently began offering Chinese IDNs, which resulted in a 10% increase in their overall registration base with approximately 100,000 being registered.
